Release of the book Delete? by Thierry Bisch

Delete?, published on the occasion of Thierry Bisch’s exhibition at the Citadel of Blaye, crowns a body of work initiated nearly thirty years ago.

The story began in the mid-1990s at the Loft Gallery in Paris, where I met Thierry, who was then just beginning his first animal portraits.

It continued in London and later in Monaco, where our exhibitions enjoyed growing success: his large-scale paintings – big cats, bears, giraffes and giant pandas – quickly captivated collectors and art enthusiasts from around the world.

Then came 2010. Thierry introduced me to his project Delete?: creating large portraits of endangered animals listed on the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature). His ambition was to create a work of international scope, aimed at raising awareness among urban populations about the urgent issue of the massive disappearance of animal species worldwide.

In 2016, to celebrate its tenth anniversary, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation partnered with the artist and launched the event Delete? Monaco: thirty paintings depicting endangered species were exhibited at emblematic locations across the Principality throughout the month of June. They were also adapted into large-format posters during the summer, reproduced on banners stretched across buildings, and even projected onto the walls of the Prince’s Palace.

In 2018, a new series of twenty works, Delete? Singapore, was presented during A Ball in Monaco at Marina Bay Sands, with the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Bartoux Galleries.

In 2026, the major retrospective Delete? brings together forty animal portraits at the Couvent des Minimes, in the heart of the Citadel of Blaye.

Recognised as one of the leading painters within this artistic field rooted in a long-standing tradition – animal painting – Thierry Bisch now presents, through Delete?, a major and essential body of work.

Through this book, it already stands as a testimony intended for future generations.
